Country Home Magazine ranks the city’s Fourth of July celebration as one of the top five in the country.
Performing arts have a strong presence in the community. The Evanston Symphony Orchestra is a polished community group that performs four concerts between November and May each year. The Next Theatre Company of Evanston uses theater to promote social awareness and provoke change.
If you’d rather enjoy outdoor activity than watch professional sports, spend the day at one of the beautiful beaches, go on a lakefront nature walk, play golf, tennis or go for a bike ride. Any and all of these opportunities are available in and around Evanston.
Situated just 15 minutes north of downtown Chicago, Evanston is easily accessible. It is just minutes from Midway and O’Hare airports and the “L” purple line has a stop right in town, making access to downtown convenient. Evanston is one of about a half dozen towns in the U.S. that claims to be the original home of the ice cream sundae. Tinkertoys were invented there in 1914.
